Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery: Things To Be Aware Of
There are several different options when it comes to weight loss surgery. Previously, you had three main choices: Roux-en-Y, Biliopancreatic Diversion and the Lap Band weight loss surgery. But there is a new surgery that has been approved for use in the United States. It is the Mini Gastric Bypass, or MGB, and it has transformed the options that overweight individuals have when it comes to losing weight through surgery. The goal of the surgery is tremendous weight loss and for the patients to see an overall improvement of their health.
The Mini Gastric Bypass, when compared to the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, has had phenomenal results. It is a surgery that is similar to RNY in that the stomach is rerouted to a portion of the intestines. That is where the similarities end. RNY is an invasive procedure that takes hours to perform and can leave the patient in the hospital for an extended amount of time.
MGB works by taking the esophageal tube and a minor portion of the stomach. Then a length of the intestine is connected to the newly formed stomach. The stomach and intestine are not as lengthy as in the RNY surgery. The added advantages are that the surgery time is usually less than thirty minutes and the hospital stay is less than twenty-four hours. Many patients report that they are up and walking around two hours after the surgery. This is far better than the days you could spend in the hospital for the Biliopancreatic Diversion surgery. It is on par with the Lap Band weight loss surgery though.
If you are considering the MGB or the Lap Band weight loss surgery, then you can be assured that your doctor will keep you informed of the advantages and disadvantages. The Lap Band surgery is also less invasive than RNY surgery and has excellent results. You will have to review the facts and make the decision yourself. It may also be in the hands of your insurance carrier as to which surgery is approved by them.
Review all the facts about the Mini Gastric Bypass and other weight loss surgeries. If you decide on the MGB, then you can expect to lose weight but it is still going to require that you eat the proper foods and get some exercise. It will help you lose the weight but you have to learn how to keep it off once you meet your weight loss goal. Hopefully, you will become a healthier you and live a much better quality of life.
